Priscilla birthday

Most of the Kijjambu family have enjoyed good health during the past couple of months, although Deborah does not always enjoy good health. In April Priscilla celebrated her 9th birthday.

This photo shows Priscilla with her triplet sisters and two friends at her birthday party.

Pastor’s conference

The 12th annual pastor and church leader’s conference was held 5th to 10th May. The theme was ‘The return of the King of kings’.

Approximately 450 leaders attended the 5-day residential event. The conference included plenary sessions, workshops, and evening events. Teaching at the conference was led by Rev Stuart Smith (Scotland), Pr Darnell Starks (Peoria, Illinois, USA) and Pr Ernie Bayton (Scotland), supplemented with other local speakers. All delegates were supplied with outlines of teaching notes for all sessions either in English or Luganda. Bibles were also issued to all attending the conference.

ICCU

International Christian College, Uganda

In parallel with the conference Pastor Darnell Starks ran a 5-day module for approximately 40 students dealing with the Inductive Method of Bible Study. Fifty copies of a book for teaching the module entitled ‘Creative Bible Teaching’ were provided as a gift to Luwero by The Moody Bible Institute, Chicago.

Children’s Club

Also in parallel with the conference a Children’s Club, run by Ugandan young people, attracted 350 children each day. The week’s theme for the club was ‘A Saviour is given to us’.

Rev Dr Tony Sargent

Sadly we report the recent death of Rev Dr Tony Sargent.

Tony was the principal of the International Christian College (ICC) in Glasgow for many years. It was there he first met Gabriel who studied at ICC between 2000 and 2004. Gabriel is indebted to Tony for his active support for him and his ministry in Luwero.

Having shared his vision with Tony towards the completion of his studies Gabriel was encouraged by Tony and Rowena (Tony’s wife) in his ministry. Tony visited Luwero on a number of occasions. He was also helpful to the founding trustees of LCP when the Trust was first established, and he maintained contact with the trustees throughout his time as principal at ICC and after his retirement.

LCP and the ministry at Luwero was represented at Tony’s funeral service which took place in Worthing on 3rd June 2024.

Farm

Progress at the farm continues. It provides periodic employment for up to 20 workers. To date 50 acres of land has been cleared of which 35 acres is under cultivation and maize is being grown.

School

The present school term runs between 27th May and 23th August.

Currently there are about 500 children attending the primary school and 200 attending the secondary school. Both schools are adequately resourced with teaching and non-teaching staff.

Visitors to Luwero

In the coming weeks visitors to Luwero will include a one-day visit by a group of 20 young people from Glasgow supporting a project known as Rock Ministries near Kamapala who have connections with Gabriel.

A second visitor will be Bible teacher, Peter McLean, from Airdrie, Scotland who is engaged in ministry elsewhere in Uganda.

Clinic

Nurse Lydia

Nurse Lydia, was appointed several months ago.

Lydia has been busy at the clinic with many cases of malaria, other sicknesses and infections amongst the children.

Retirement of Ernie Bayton

Ernie Bayton

Ernie Bayton, known to many Luwero supporters and who was one of the founding trustees of LCP, is retiring as a trustee at the end of July.

His role and responsibilities are being handed over to other Board members during a transitional period. Ernie says, ‘It has been a huge privilege to serve the Lord as a trustee for LCP, be a regular visitor to Luwero and to make so many friends across our support base’. He will continue to maintain a close interest in Gabriel’s ministry and the work of LCP.
