Welcome to the January 2024 edition of our Luwero Newsletter
Family
Peggy was recently unwell and was in hospital for four days. She has now returned home and recovering. Deborah, Pricilla, Gabriella, Debbie and Peggy are all delighted to have Gabriel back at Luwero with them.
Gabriel’s UK visit
Gabriel had an invaluable time meeting supporters both in the UK and Germany last Autumn. He was in Europe for 11 weeks, four in Germany and 7 in the UK. Whilst in the UK Gabriel had 50 meetings across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. His time included visiting churches, schools, Bible Colleges, home Bible study groups, meetings with individuals and an evening concert in Glasgow. Whilst Gabriel arrived home safely on 20th December, three of his four cases took a few days longer and the fourth case is still unaccounted for. Upon his return an outreach mission in Luwero took place.
Land purchase
Acquisition of the new 220-acre site is progressing well, the third instalment for the cost of the land is due to be paid in January 2024. Gabriel’s lawyers in Kampala have been instructed to secure the freehold for the land. To date 48 acres of land has been cleared by hand and is ready for planting crops in February. Developments at the new site, within the foreseeable future include a borehole, construction of a farmhouse for the farm-manager and a toilet block for workers. Local labour is employed to work on the farm.
Schools
All schools are on holiday until the beginning of February, the start of the new academic year. At the end of last term P7 & S4 pupils sat their final exams and await their results. More children are available for sponsorship. Should anyone with to sponsor a child, or sign up to our Bursary Scheme, please contact the office via email, our Contact Form on this website or post.
New Year celebrations
An all-night prayer meeting was held to celebrate the beginning of a New Year. 60 people became Christians at the event.
New churches
A young member of the church at Luwero returned to his home village, Kyazanga, some 150 miles from Luwero in the south of Uganda. He contacted Gabriel and asked for an outreach mission to be held in the village. Gabriel travelled to Kyazanga a week or so ago and wrote,
‘When we arrived for the mission in Kyazanga we found the brothers and sisters had started putting up a temporary church structure, it had neither roof, doors, windows or chairs. But the place was full with people, Christians and non-Christians. The second day we bought 56 iron sheets and roofed the church. We went and hired some chairs – our funds were limited to that. On the third day of the crusade 20 people gave their lives to Jesus. We held seminars every day, new believers’ classes, and a crusade in the evening. I had to come back home because the vehicle I had was hired for 3 days. But the rest on the team had to carry on. At the end on Sunday, at the new Kirk in Kyazanga, 67 people gave their lives to Christ our Lord. 44 were baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We thank God for all your endless support and prayers’.

At the site of the new farm a new church is also being planted. The opening services were due to be held over the weekend 19th to 21st January. Hopefully, the new farm will bear spiritual fruit before bearing physical fruit!
