The school term has just ended and resumes at the beginning of September. A number of UK visitors have been at Luwero over the past two months. Ann, who spends time each year at Luwero as a volunteer teacher returned to Glasgow at the beginning of July having stayed at Luwero after the Pastor’s Conference in May. A 13-strong team from Kirkintilloch Baptist Church spent 10 days at the project helping with the work at the school, church, new buildings and clinic. Five of their team stayed a further week contributing to the work.
Deborah and baby Precious Priscilla (her Christian names have been reversed) moved to Luwero after two months at Kampala where Deborah was able to access the hospital easily for regular check-ups, etc. Both Deborah & Precious are progressing well.
Between 17th & 21st August Luwero’s 9th Annual Youth Camp will take place. This year’s theme is ‘Training for Reigning’. Two church leaders from Scotland will visit Luwero for the camp to provide Bible teaching alongside other local pastors. Below is a picture of delegates at a previous camp.
Ernie Bayton from Riverside Church, Kirkintilloch will lead a series of studies in 1st & 2nd Timothy; Darnell Starks, minister of Crookston Baptist Church, Glasgow will take up a series of studies in Ecclesiastes. This will be Darnell’s first visit to Luwero. He is a qualified basketball coach and will bring those skills to the youth camp.
Lack of rainfall has been a problem at Luwero recently. Wells dried up, a problem developed with the lining of one of the wells and the whole area suffered from a water shortage. The secondary school assembly building is nearing completion ready for use in the new school term. Work on the new dining and kitchen facility is in progress along with the permanent church building under construction. The search for much needed additional land for farming is continuing.
Gabriel hopes to visit the UK this Autumn. Any group who would like Gabriel to visit them during his visit should contact the office at [email protected] for details and arranging visits.
